WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access)  is a wireless broadband transmission system,to be standardized by the IEEE (IEEE 802.16).WiMAX is a “last mile” technology that offers broadband access to customer premises and is sometimes used as an alternative to wire technologies (such as Cable Modems, DSL and T1/E1 links).

WiMAX is similar to  wireless broadband (also known as WiFi), except that t it is able to operate at higher speeds over longer distances and for a greater amounts of users  than on traditional WiFi networks. WiMAX is a wireless service that allows users to connect to the Internet through hot spots even in areas that are difficult for wired infrastructure to reach .It is used in a variety of applications including public safety, education and banking networks,  offshore communications and military communications.
